I have always
been interested in fiber arts. As a young girl I embroidered things for a
hope chest. My mother was a skilled seamstress and I learned dress making
from her. Later in life I became interested in needlepoint and finally
quilting. About 5 years ago I had to quit quilting due to problems with my
hands and in looking for a new hobby turned to weaving. I took a class at
our local Community College and was thrilled. However as a woodworker I
didn’t like the simple pine loom I was given to use. So I made my own out
of unique hardwoods I had on hand. Then I made a few shuttles and the rest
is history!
Joe Prunty age 12
I have worked with my grandmother in her woodshop
since I was a baby playing with wood, paint brush, and glass of water. By
the time I was four I was helping her build things. Like my grandmother I
started out making furniture. When I was 6 I made a Childs Adirondack
chair and entered it in the Los Angeles county fair taking Best of Show.
I have also made a cherry trophy case, childs rocking chair, and Craftsman
table lamp. Two years ago Granny gave me a Jet Midi lathe and this has
turned out to be love of my life. I really like turning. I have taken
several classes and now make all the handles for tools we sell. I also
make Nostepindes
, tapestry bobbins, sley hooks and recently slim line
pens.
Rebecca like her brother has worked in the wood shop
with her grandmother since she was a little girl. At four years of age she
started weaving and has made several projects. Currently she is weaving the
Prunty family plaid as a sash to wear and is doing a great job of a
complicated pattern. She has also started an interest in Harry Potter and
has her own table at shows with wands turned on a lathe, knitted bookmarks,
and cozies for the wands. All in all she is a talented young lady.
Joe Prunty age 12 is exciting young man to be around. He works in the wood
shop and is currently making a cherry coffee table with turned legs for his
parents. He has made a cherry trophy case with glass sides and doors among
other projects. Most of the turned objects for sale on this web site are of
his design. Recently at a show he purchased a spinning wheel with his
earnings and is learning to spin. Previously he spun on hand spindle
