LUCET

A lucet, also known as a "lyre" or "chain fork" makes a square braid from a single strand of yarn. Very popular in victorian times as decorative braiding on clothing
With lucet in left hand hold the start "of the yarn against the back of the lucet. Hold for several repeats until it is stable. A) Wrap the thread in a figure 8 around the prongs. Holding the working end of the thread around your middle to little fingers. B) With your middle finger and thumb pick up the lower loop of thread and lift over the working end and off the prong, so that the working end forms a new loop. C) Turn the lucet over in your left hand so that the right hand prong now becomes the left one. Pull the working end towards the right to tighten the stitch and center it. Then take the working end over the end of the right hand prong again. Continue to length you want. To finish, take the working end through the loops on each side.
